Aerations can work wonders for the overall health of your lawn. The prime time for aerations is approaching quickly, so we wanted to give you an idea of what an aeration is and what benefits they provide.
An aeration consist of running a machine (aerator) across your lawn that punctures and removes hundreds of “plugs” of soil from all across your lawn.
The goal here is to break up and loosen up soil that has grown compact over time. This will allow better airflow to the root system of you turf, as well as increasing the effectiveness of waterings and feedings.
Compact soils will struggle to absorb water, and will also increase run off. Aerations help avoid this. As fertilizers break down, it is water that helps carry those nutrients down into the soil to be absorbed by the root system of your turf. Compact soil only hinder this process, and we want to avoid that at all costs.
Doing an aeration at least once per year (twice is best) will drastically strengthen the root system of your turf, and thus improve the overall health of your lawn.
So start making plans to have this done, you don’t want to miss it!
