The Honest Answer? The Worst Time to Start Is Never Starting.
It is one of the most common questions we hear from homeowners in Midlothian, Prosper, and Mansfield: when is the best time to start a fertilization and weed control program? We asked Mallory, and her answer might surprise you.
There is not really a single best time. Every application in our program builds off the one before it, which means whenever you start, you are already moving in the right direction.
Starting in the Spring
If you jump in during the spring, you are off to a solid start. The one tradeoff is that you likely missed our fall and winter pre-emergent applications, which means some early season weeds may already be getting a foothold. That is not a reason to wait, though. Getting started in spring means you are building turf health and getting your weed control program moving through the most active growing season of the year.
Starting in the Summer
Starting in the summer means you probably missed the spring pre-emergent window as well. But the upside is that summer is a great time to start building your turf. Your lawn is actively growing and the treatments you get during those months start laying a foundation that carries into the fall and beyond. It is never too late to get going.
Starting in the Fall
Waiting until fall means you missed the turf building part of the season, but fall is actually a great entry point for a different reason. Starting in the fall puts you in a strong position to get our pre-emergent applications going at the end of the year and into the first part of the new year, which sets your lawn up well heading into spring.
The Bottom Line
Every season has a tradeoff if you are starting fresh, but every season also has something to offer. The real takeaway from Mallory is this: the worst time to start is not starting at all. Each application builds on the last, and the sooner you get on a program the sooner your lawn starts moving in the right direction.
