Two types of weed control.

With all the talk about pre-emergent, its important to remember that there are are two types of weed control out there and BOTH are very important.

The two types are product control and culture control. Product control is simple…pre-emergents and post emergents, the products you apply to your lawn to control weeds.
Culture control is basically all the things you do to make your lawn as thick, lush and healthy as possible. This includes things like proper mowing, proper watering, good drainage, aerating to reduce compaction, feeding your lawn etc.

This is not a situation where you pick one or the other. To get the best results in controlling weeds, there has to be a combination of the two. Far too often people rely to heavily on products and forget about culture control, when the reality is that good culture control practices alone can control weed growth up to 80%!

Get culture control right, and then use products as the final touch or the icing on the cake. THAT is what separates the immaculate lawns from everything else!
