The other day I talked about how to know when its too late for a pre-emergent.
We had a LOT of response from that video so I want to be clear....*IT IS NOT TOO LATE FOR A PRE-EMERGENT*. It will be soon, but there is still time.
In that video, I mentioned in passing that there are a few pre-emergents that will buy you some time because they will act as a post emergent on young weeds. These products can be hard to find because this is not something the manufacturers will put on the label. We know of these products because we have spoken to the manufactures, reps, used the products ourselves, as well as done some online research.
The two products we know of that act as a post emergent for young weeds are Specticle and Dimension.
Specticle is the product we currently use on our program. Because the quantity it comes in, Specticle is just too expensive for someone that wants to just treat their own lawn. So for a homeowner doing their own lawn, Dimension will be the best option.
These two products will still be very effective even after soil temperatures reach 55+ degrees. They won’t be effective forever, but they will buy you some more time.
For reference, soil temperatures typically reach 55+ early to mid March. We will apply Specticle (or dimension) all the through the end of March, and we still get great results from it.
So if you procrastinated…shame on you! But don’t worry, you’ve still got options.
