Today I want to share with you the absolute BEST product on the market for controlling fire ants.
But first and foremost, this is not something you will be able to do yourself. This is a restricted product that can only be purchased by licensed lawn care companies or pest control companies.
If you have a service provider and you want to control fire ants, you need to ask for something with Fipronil. The most common brand name is TopChoice, but there are a number of different Fipronil brands out there.
The reason this is such a great product is because it controls fire ants for an entire year. Fipronil is not a bait, or something you treat mounds with, but rather a broadcast application for your entire lawn. Once activated (which typically takes 2-4 weeks), the entire treated area will be fire ant free for the entire year.
Spring is the best time to apply Fipronil because we get a lot of moisture which speeds up the activation process. It can be applied any time of year, it just may take it longer to activate.
