You always want to trim crape myrtles while they're dormant during the winter months, and right now is exactly that window. With the mild winters we've had recently, it's hard to predict exactly when crape myrtles will start coming out of dormancy. It may happen much sooner than normal, so don't wait too long to get your crapes trimmed.
Because winters have been running mild, crape myrtles could break dormancy earlier than usual. That means the safe window to trim without stressing the plant may close faster than you'd expect. If you've been putting it off, now's the time to go ahead and get it done.
If you don't know how to trim crape myrtles correctly, don't trim them. Seriously, look up the proper technique first. Trimming them the wrong way can do a lot more damage than good, and it's very easy to make mistakes if you've never done it before or you're not familiar with the right approach.
