What exactly are we racing against in weed control?
I’ve said we recommend getting your pre-emergent down before the end of February, but a mere date is not what we’re up against.
We are racing the soil temperatures.
Its the soil temperatures the dictate when weed seeds will germinate. As the temps rise over the next few months, so will the soil temperatures. As those temperatures rise, different seeds will begin to germinate and grow into weeds.
Fortunately, the weather has bought us some time. It has been a cold start to March, and soil temperatures are still within the range we need in order to prevent weeds.
