The heat and drought of the summer should always be top of mind for anyone that cares about their lawn (yes it was pouring down rain and 75 degrees when I made this video. Don't worry though, the normal Texas summer will return shortly).
Heat and drought are not the only things to watch out for though. This is also the time of year when your lawn is most susceptible to pest damage.
Overt the next 6-8 weeks there are three pest that you need to keep a close eye out for:
1) Chinch bugs. They are a problem every year, and they absolutely love hot, dry conditions. A preemptive bifenthrin application can help prevent chinch bug damage. That needs to be applied ASAP.
2) Grub worms. We haven't seen any damage just yet, but it will be here soon enough and will only get worse the further into August and September we get. Those that had a preventative earlier this year will not have an issue. Those that did NOT get a preventative need to keep a close eye out for signs of damage. The earlier you catch it, the easier they are to deal with.
3) Armyworms. These little terrors can destroy a lawn overnight. Some years they are everywhere, other years we hardly see them at all. Dealing with them is easy, but you have to act quick.
If you have any questions on what to look for or how to deal with them, we would be happy to help!
