This spring we posted a video about all the rain causing a nutsedge problem.
Well apart from the light rain we had in August, it has been hot and dry for quite some time. If you still have a nutsedge problem in your lawn or beds, you can't blame it on the rain anymore.
Remember that nutsedge thrives on moist conditions. Having a nutsedge problem right now means that you also have a watering problem.
Overwatering, poor drainage, broken sprinkler heads...anything causing an excess amount of moisture is also going to cause a nutsedge problem.
So before you spend the time and money on products to treat nutsedge, get to the core issue and make the necessary watering adjustments/repairs.
Pre-emergents do not work against nutsedge. Post-emergents will kill off existing nutsedge, but if you don’t fixe the core issue it will only be a matter of time before it returns.
