Right now we are in between the two most important applications for any lawn care program. We just finished up the fall pre emergent, which is done September, October and early November. In about a month and a half we will be starting the Spring pre emergent.
So what, if anything, should you be doing right now?
This time of year we highly recommend doing a potassium, or what we call a soil enhancement application. Your turf needs high levels of potassium, this will help develop the root system. It will help your root system grow and branch which gives your turf a solid foundation to build on.
What this means for your lawn is improved drought tolerance, improved cold hardiness, better water absorption and retention, wear tolerance and improved resistance to disease just to name a few.
It is best to have it down by the end of December, before the coldest part of Winter arrives.
The product we use is called K-Mag, but there are a number of similar products out there if you search for “potassium fertilizers”.
This application is highly recommended for any lawn, but it is CRUCIAL for St. Augustine lawns. St. Augustine does not like cold winters, and is prone to disease, so it needs all the help it can get!
