“If I’m buying locally, which pre-emergent do you recommend?”….a question we hear all the time!
Local garden centers are the best place to shop for lawn care products. They are much more likely to have experts hand picking the best products for the consumer, rather than a corporate office somewhere telling them what to put on the shelves.
That said, if you are out shopping for a pre-emergent, let us give you a recommendation on what to look for…
First up: Hi-Yield Turf and Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension.
Why the recommendation? The key word is Dimension. Dimension is what will help control grassy weeds such as Crabgrass that come up in the summer months.
Remember, there are pre-emergents out there that are more geared towards broadleaf weeds and not grassy weeds. However, after they come up, grassy weeds are much harder to deal with. That is why we prefer to target those as opposed to broadleaf with the Spring application.
That does not mean that this product is completely ineffective against broadleaf weeds, it actually does a very good job against them. You just might have a little more breakthrough in broadleaf weeds than you would with a product geared towards broadleaf.
The other reason we like this pre-emergent is because it is available just about everywhere. It is very easy to find, and you will cannot go wrong by choosing this product.
REMEMBER…pre-emergents need to be put down RIGHT NOW. Do not put it off, or you will have a yard full of weeds the rest of the year!
