It is one of the most common questions we get from homeowners in Midlothian, Prosper, and Mansfield: do I really need weekly mowing or is bi-weekly fine? We asked Luke to give a straight answer.
If you can do weekly mowing, do weekly mowing. Luke does not waver on that. Weekly mowing is almost always the better choice for your lawn and the long-term health of your turf.
Think of it like working out. Is it better to exercise for eight hours once a month or to spread that out over two or three sessions per week? The answer is obvious, and the same logic applies to your lawn.
When you mow weekly you are cutting a smaller amount of grass each time, which puts significantly less stress on the turf. Less stress means a healthier, more resilient lawn that is better at fighting off disease and insects. Over time weekly mowing also produces greener, lusher grass with fewer weeds. The results are not even close compared to bi-weekly mowing.
There is one scenario where bi-weekly mowing makes sense: if you do not have a sprinkler system and your yard does not have much turf to speak of. If your lawn is mostly weeds and you do not have an established Bermuda or St. Augustine lawn, you can probably get away with bi-weekly mowing for parts of the year. Outside of that situation, weekly is the way to go.
If you are wondering what weekly versus bi-weekly mowing costs, we put together a full pricing breakdown video that walks through real numbers for three common yard sizes in DFW. Check that out for an exact reference point before you call anyone.
