Warning...chinch bugs are here!
This is honestly the earliest we have ever seen chinch big damage, we typically don’t see signs of chinch bugs until we are well into July or August.
As you will see in the video, chinch bugs can absolutely destroy a lawn in a matter of days! It is absolutely crucial to act immediately if you have any signs of chinch big damage in your lawn! Dealing with them is actually pretty easy, the hard part is catching them early enough BEFORE they eat your lawn away!
The months of June, July and August are when chinch bugs are in their adult stage, and when they begin feeding on your lawn. Chinch bugs can spread and kill your lawn very quickly, so always check for them if you start to see any browning in your yard.
Checking for chinch bugs is simple. Just find a spot on the edge of the dying grass and the green grass, and look down deep into the thatch. You can also use a metal can with both ends cut off. Stick the can 2 to 3 inches into the ground, and fill it with water. If you have chinch bugs they will float to the top.Check your local garden center for products that target chinch such as Spectracide or Bug B Gone. Typically one quick application does the trick!
