This is the time of year when everyone could use a quick reminder of the overall timing of lawn care.
Maybe you have hopes of getting your lawn under control next year, or maybe your lawn is in great shape and you just want to keep it that way. How do you go about doing that? When do you start that process?
Well you DON’T start that process at the beginning of next year or next spring (which is what most people do), by then you will have waited too long.
The lawn care calendar year actually runs from fall to fall. The fall pre-emergent that is applied now through the end of October is the first step for having a weed free lawn in 2021. This application lays the groundwork for next year and prevents most of the weeds that we see popping up from January all the way through May.
Pre-emergents are all about killing weeds BEFORE before they have a chance to germinate and grow. Over the next 6 months or so there will be THOUSANDS of weed seeds in your lawn that are just waiting for the right conditions to explode and take over your lawn. The fall pre-emergent is the ONLY thing that will keep that from happening.
Don’t put it off, the sooner the better! Get your products, call your lawn care provider…but whatever you do, DO NOT miss the fall pre-emergent!
